US Patent fee changes to take effect on January 19, 2025
On November 20, 2024, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) announced updated patent fees in a final rule, effective January 19, 2025.
The following tables summarize the basic fee changes:

Design patent

Search fee | 160 | 300 |
Examination fee | 640 | 700 |
Issue fee | 740 | 1300 |
Compared with the current standard of official fees, the basic official fees for filing a utility patent application and requesting of grant will be increased from USD 3020 to USD 3290 and for filing a design patent application and requesting of grant will be increased from USD 1760 to USD 2600 on or after January 19, 2025.
It is recommended that applications be filed and/or official fees be paid by January 19, 2025 to reduce costs.
