Validation agreement between EPO and Laos takes effect
1 April 2025 marks the entry into force of the validation agreement between the European Patent Organisation (EPO) and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. From that date, it will be possible to validate European patent applications and patents in Lao PDR, where, after validation, they will confer essentially the same protection as patents granted by the EPO for the now 39 member states of the European Patent Organisation.

US Patent fee changes to take effect on January 19, 2025
Compared with the current standard of official fees, the basic official fees for filing a utility patent application and requesting of grant will be increased from USD 3020 to USD 3290 and for filing a design patent application and requesting of grant will be increased from USD 1760 to USD 2600 on or after January 19, 2025.

WIPO Member States Adopt Riyadh Design Law Treaty

Amendments to the Regulations on Fees of Rospatent come into force from October 5, 2024
On October 5, 2024, the Amendments to the Regulations on Fees of Rospatent come into force. The amendments include adjustment of fees, introduction of a grace period of payment of the prescribed fees, change of period of payment of annuities and etc.

IP Australia implements fee changes from October 1, 2024
IP Australia announced that some fees are updated to continue covering the costs of administering intellectual property (IP) rights and their associated legislation. The application fee, examination fee, acceptance fee and continuation fees for standard patent applications have been increased, however, the application fee for designs has been decreased.
